The Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election, while urging the Federal Government to establish a specialised Bank of Transportation to cater to the financial needs of operators in the sector.

In a communiqué issued after consultations across its national, zonal, state, unit and chapel structures, RTEAN National President, Musa Maitakobi, said the endorsement followed extensive internal deliberations.

According to Maitakobi, the economic and infrastructural reforms introduced under Tinubu’s administration have repositioned transportation as a strategic pillar of national development. He noted that the sector cuts across land, sea and air, requiring a structured financial institution that understands its peculiarities.

“We are writing to the government to consider establishing a bank of transport, as there is a Bank of Industry and a Bank of Agriculture. The transport sector needs a dedicated institution to provide affordable credit for fleet renewal, infrastructure development, safety improvements and expansion,” he stated.

The association argued that transportation is no longer a peripheral service but a central component of economic planning with direct implications for productivity, trade and citizens’ welfare. It stressed that continuity in leadership would help consolidate reforms, complete infrastructure projects and safeguard investments already made in the sector.

RTEAN also commended the government’s promotion of Compressed Natural Gas adoption, noting that the increasing number of vehicles at CNG stations nationwide reflects growing acceptance among transport operators. It described the initiative as beneficial in reducing operational costs and supporting cleaner energy use.

The union called on its members nationwide to begin mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re election bid, emphasising that policy consistency is vital to sustaining reforms and strengthening the transport industry.
