President Donald Trump responded to public questions about his health after his “raspy voice” drew attention during an Oval Office meeting about the USA’s plans for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
At the event, an attendee asked, “Your voice sounds rough, are you feeling alright?” Mr. Trump replied, “I was shouting at people because they were stupid about something having to do with trade in a country.”
A reporter then said the remark “sounds like a follow up”, which Mr. Trump appeared to mishear. He replied, “What? I thought said there was a polyp – I don’t want to hear that.”
On the subject of a recent MRI, Mr. Trump explained in an interview: “Because it was part of my physical. Getting an MRI is very standard.”
He added: “What, you think I shouldn’t have it? I had an MRI. The doctor said it was the best result he has ever seen as a doctor. That’s it.”
When asked whether the scan examined his brain or his heart, Mr. Trump said he did not know the details: “I have no idea what they analysed. But whatever they analysed, they analysed it well and they said that I had as good a result as they’d ever seen.”
His press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, said Mr. Trump was “assessed by radiologist and consultants” at Walter Reed Medical Centre, and that they found him to be in “exceptional physical health”.
Still, some medical experts have voiced concerns about Mr. Trump’s mental and physical state. In August, John Gartner, a former assistant professor of psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, said he saw signs of dementia after comparing recent footage with material from the 1980s.
Questions about the 79‑year‑old leader’s health have persisted since his return to the Oval Office earlier this year.
