President Tinubu Congratulates Okonjo-Iweala, Adeola, and Adesina on UNILAG Honorary Degrees

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended his congratulations to Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Mr. Fola Adeola, and Mr. Kola Adesina for being awarded honorary doctorate degrees during the 55th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos (UNILAG). This announcement was made through a statement from his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday.

President Tinubu praised Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, currently the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, for her groundbreaking role as the first African woman to lead the organization and her significant contributions to Nigeria’s financial sector reforms.

Mr. Fola Adeola, known for co-founding Guaranty Trust Bank Plc and establishing the FATE Foundation, was recognized for his transformative impact on Nigeria’s banking sector and his efforts in nurturing young entrepreneurs.

Mr. Kola Adesina, a UNILAG alumnus and the Group Managing Director of Sahara Power Group, was commended for his innovative strides in Nigeria’s energy sector. His work has been pivotal in providing sustainable power solutions and fostering infrastructure development in 42 countries globally.

In a special message to Adesina, President Tinubu highlighted Sahara Power Group’s contributions under his leadership as setting a benchmark for excellence in the energy sector. He stated, “This honorary degree is a well-deserved acknowledgement of your tireless efforts to elevate engineering standards and drive innovation in Nigeria.”

The President emphasized the honorees’ roles as exemplars for future generations, noting, “You are beacons of hope, innovation, and inspiration for future generations,” and encouraged them to persist in their impactful work for national development.

The honorary Doctor of Science degrees (D.Sc.) awarded to Okonjo-Iweala, Adeola, and Adesina by UNILAG celebrate their substantial contributions to Nigeria’s socio-economic advancement. President Tinubu extended his best wishes for their continued success and affirmed the government’s appreciation of their efforts.
