President Tinubu Condoles Super Eagles Captain Wilfred Ndidi Over Father’s Death

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed profound condolences to Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi following the death of his father, Sunday Ndidi, who tragically died in a road accident in Umunede, near Agbor, Delta State, on Tuesday. The President’s message, released on Wednesday through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, described the loss as painful for the family and all who knew the deceased.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Sunday Ndidi. I share in the grief of his family, friends, and associates, particularly Wilfred Ndidi, who shared a strong bond with his father as a mentor and guide in his remarkable career as an exceptional footballer,” the statement said.

Wilfred Ndidi, who plays for Turkish Super Lig side Beşiktaş, has served as a key player and captain for the Super Eagles. President Tinubu highlighted the late Sunday Ndidi’s positive influence on his son and others, noting that his values, modest beginnings, and personal integrity left a lasting impact on those around him.

“There is no doubt that Sunday’s honesty and dedication greatly inspired those who looked up to him,” the President added.

In his message, President Tinubu prayed for divine comfort for the Ndidi family and the repose of the late Sunday Ndidi’s soul, asking God to grant the family strength to endure the loss and eternal rest to the departed.

The condolence comes amid a period of national recognition for the achievements of Nigerian sports figures, with the President acknowledging the personal support and guidance provided by family members like Sunday Ndidi in shaping the careers of outstanding athletes.
