The Premier League has deleted a social media post featuring Guglielmo Vicario after Tottenham Hotspur formally complained about the content.
The clip, shared across multiple league platforms including X and TikTok, showed Spurs goalkeeper Vicario taking a free kick during Sunday’s 2 1 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Vicario’s long delivery went into space with no teammate making a run. The league’s official account captioned the post “Just how the play was drawn up” alongside the text “An interesting free kick from Vicario” and a laughing emoji with the word “whoops.”
The TikTok post reached nearly 25 million followers, while the X clip drew close to half a million views. Tottenham supporters criticized the post, arguing that the tone was inconsistent with Premier League messaging on player welfare and mental health. Spurs contacted the league at multiple levels, emphasizing that it should not appear to mock its own players or clubs.
The video was subsequently removed.
The incident occurred after another challenging afternoon for Tottenham under new head coach Igor Tudor, who oversaw just his second match in charge. Fulham opened the scoring in the London derby despite protests that defender Radu Drăgușin was pushed by Raúl Jiménez in the buildup. Tudor later criticized what he described as inconsistent officiating, noting that Spurs had a goal disallowed in an earlier North London derby under similar circumstances.
