Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has publicly slammed social media critic Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for suggesting a collaboration on a diss track targeting gospel singer Mercy Chinwo. The feud erupted following Chinwo’s N1.1 billion defamation lawsuit against VDM, who had accused her of misappropriating funds from her performances and failing to pay her former record label. The escalating tension has now drawn Portable into the fray, but the street-hop artist is having none of it.

Taking to Instagram, Portable unleashed a scathing rebuke of VDM’s proposal, warning the critic to steer clear of his name. The singer, known for his unfiltered outbursts, questioned VDM’s audacity and financial standing, making it clear he wasn’t interested in being dragged into the controversy. “You are already overstepping your boundaries, VDM or whatever you are called, you are overstepping. Stop talking about me, do not mention my name,” Portable fumed. He further challenged VDM’s credibility, asking, “You just come from nowhere… You said that we should sing, do you have N100 million in your account to feature me?”

Portable’s rejection highlights his reluctance to align with VDM, whose accusations against Mercy Chinwo have sparked widespread debate. The gospel star’s lawsuit claims defamation, alleging that VDM’s statements have damaged her reputation and livelihood. Meanwhile, Portable’s response suggests he views the collaboration request as both an overreach and an insult, given his own status in the music industry. His mention of a N100 million fee underscores his belief that any partnership with him comes at a premium—far beyond what he perceives VDM can afford.

The saga adds another layer to Portable’s colorful public persona, which has seen him embroiled in numerous controversies, from his self-confessed foray into internet fraud to his outspoken takes on industry peers. For VDM, the rebuttal marks a setback in his apparent bid to escalate his feud with Chinwo through musical provocation. As the legal battle between Chinwo and VDM unfolds, Portable’s firm stance signals his intent to stay out of the crossfire—at least for now. Whether this deters VDM from further antics or fuels more drama remains to be seen in Nigeria’s ever-volatile entertainment scene.
