Political activities are beginning to intensify in Abia State as the Labour Party and former governor Orji Uzor Kalu clash over the state’s evolving political direction ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a strongly worded statement, the Labour Party rejected what it described as outdated practices of electoral manipulation and voter intimidation, insisting that such tactics no longer reflect the realities of modern politics in Abia. The party emphasized that the electorate has become more aware, engaged, and determined to protect their votes.

According to the party, the political landscape in the state has shifted significantly, with citizens now playing a more active role in shaping governance. It stressed that future elections will be decided strictly by the will of the people, warning against any attempts to undermine democratic processes through coercion or fear.

The party also reaffirmed its support for Governor Alex Otti, pointing to ongoing reforms and infrastructure projects as evidence of a government focused on accountability and development. It described the current administration as a reflection of a new political era marked by transparency and performance driven leadership.

Addressing recent claims surrounding Abia State University in Uturu, the Labour Party dismissed allegations linked to Kalu as misleading. It accused critics of attempting to distract from what it called tangible progress under the present government.

Observers believe the exce highlights a broader transformation in Abia’s political environment, where traditional power structures are increasingly being challenged by a more politically conscious population.

As momentum builds toward 2027, the Labour Party maintains that Abia has entered a decisive phase in which credible elections and voter empowerment will define leadership outcomes.
