Police Service Commission Promotes Seven AIGs to Deputy Inspectors General

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of seven Assistant Inspectors General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General in a move aimed at strengthening the leadership structure of the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotions followed a comprehensive assessment process which considered merit seniority service record and performance in both written examinations and oral interviews conducted at the Commission Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.

According to a statement from the commission the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to ensure effective leadership within the police force and to maintain professional standards across its operations.

The officers elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspectors General include Zachariah Fera Achinyan formerly the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 4 Makurdi. Others promoted are Zango Ibrahim Baba previously overseeing the Department of Logistics and Supply and Isyaku Mohammed who served as Assistant Inspector General in charge of Armament at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

Also promoted is Margaret Agebe Ochalla who was the Assistant Inspector General at the FCID Annex in Lagos. The list also includes Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman formerly responsible for Police Accounts and Budget at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The remaining officers promoted are Kenechukwu Onwuemelie who previously served as Assistant Inspector General for Zone 15 in Maiduguri and Umar Shehu Nadada who was the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone 14 in Katsina.

The commission noted that the promotions became necessary following the retirement of eight Deputy Inspectors General who previously held key strategic positions within the police force.

Chairman of the Police Service Commission Hashimu Salihu Argungu congratulated the newly promoted officers and encouraged them to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in their new roles. He also urged them to prioritise national security and maintain a productive relationship with the commission to support the continued growth and development of the Nigeria Police Force.
