Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Wife in Kebbi Community

The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, for allegedly killing his wife, Umaima Maidawa, aged 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state. The incident has sparked outrage within the community and renewed concerns over domestic violence.

According to a statement issued on Friday in Birnin Kebbi by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the tragic incident occurred on Monday at about 6:30 a.m. The suspect was alleged to have attacked his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe during a domestic dispute, inflicting fatal injuries that led to her death.

SP Usman disclosed that following the incident, Mamuda fled the area in an attempt to evade arrest. However, through prompt investigation and credible intelligence provided by members of the community, police operatives were able to trace and apprehend the suspect.

“The suspect fled the area after the incident but was later traced and arrested following police investigation and credible information received from members of the community,” the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police in Kebbi State, Mr Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and subsequent prosecution. The police said this step was necessary to ensure justice is served and the matter handled with the seriousness it deserves.

The police command also used the opportunity to urge residents to promptly report cases of violence and other criminal activities to security agencies. SP Usman emphasized that community cooperation remains critical in maintaining peace and security across the state.

The incident adds to growing national concern over gender-based violence and domestic abuse, with advocacy groups continuing to call for stronger enforcement of laws, public awareness, and support systems for victims.

Police authorities reassured the public of their commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes are brought to justice.
