ABUJA – The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, has refuted reports claiming the association accused TotalEnergies Nigeria Limited of maltreatment of employees, expatriate harassment, racism, or violations of the Nigerian Local Content Act.

In a statement issued Tuesday by its acting general secretary, Dr. Jerry Amah, PENGASSAN described the publication as “sensationalist” and a dangerous breach of confidentiality that threatens industrial harmony in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

The association said unnamed actors had hijacked an internal staff-management document and circulated it to the media without authorization. “The National Leadership of PENGASSAN categorically states that it has neither issued any statement on this matter nor provided any document to the media,” the statement read.

PENGASSAN warned that misusing its name to lend credibility to unverified allegations could create workplace tension and damage both the association’s and the industry’s reputation. The association also clarified that it has no connection with the cited MIND group.

The statement emphasized that only the national leadership is authorized to communicate PENGASSAN’s official position. “PENGASSAN is taking immediate steps to investigate the circumstances surrounding this breach and will take appropriate actions against those responsible,” it added.

The association urged stakeholders to disregard any statement not issued by its national secretariat. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting members’ welfare, ensuring industrial harmony, and engaging in constructive dialogue with all stakeholders in the oil and gas industry.

PENGASSAN concluded by stressing that it will not condone sensationalism or unverified claims that could undermine stability in the sector.
