National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, on Tuesday announced that his leadership has chosen the path of peace to safeguard the party’s unity and ensure its survival. Speaking after a meeting of the National Working Committee of his faction, Turaki said the party is prepared to make necessary sacrifices to resolve internal disputes and continue participating in all elections.

He confirmed that leaders of both factions have begun dialogue to explore pathways for a lasting resolution, urging supporters to immediately tone down inflammatory statements and actions that could derail reconciliation efforts. Turaki added that pending court cases would be withdrawn once an agreement is reached, noting that legal disputes would be set aside in the interest of peace.

Turaki said, “We have hope and confidence that we can still work together. There are times to fight and times to make peace. Even after conflict, it is important not just to win the war but to secure lasting peace. So if you have a pathway to winning the peace without necessarily going to war, why not take peace and forgo the war?”

He also highlighted that the party’s resilience and internal mechanisms allow it to resolve conflicts in a family manner, and stressed that the PDP remains committed to defending democracy as Nigeria’s only surviving legacy party. The National Working Committee voted a vote of confidence on Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde for their steadfast leadership.

Turaki reassured aspirants and supporters that the PDP will field candidates for all elective offices, and emphasized the party’s dedication to offering a credible platform for political contests ahead of the 2027 elections.
