PDP Challenges Tinubu’s Response to National Insecurity

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s decision to cancel his scheduled visits to South Africa and Angola, labeling the move as an insubstantial gesture in the face of Nigeria’s deepening security crisis.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the PDP argued that the President’s decision, while seemingly empathetic, lacks the depth and urgency required to address the escalating violence and kidnappings plaguing the nation particularly in the northern regions.

The opposition party urged President Tinubu to take a more hands-on approach by temporarily relocating to conflict-ridden areas such as Kebbi State. According to the PDP, such a move would not only demonstrate genuine leadership but also serve to uplift the morale of security personnel and compel security agencies to act with greater resolve.

“The cancellation of the President’s foreign engagements is being paraded as a sign of solidarity with the victims of recent abductions and attacks,” the statement read. “However, without concrete follow-up actions, it amounts to little more than a symbolic gesture.”

The PDP emphasized that true leadership requires presence and action, especially during times of national distress. They pointed to the recent abduction of 25 schoolgirls and violent incidents in Kwara State as evidence of a deteriorating security situation that demands more than public relations maneuvers.

The party further criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government for what it described as a pattern of denial, superficial responses, and ineffective assurances. It argued that if the crisis were political such as the recent turmoil in Rivers State the administration would have mobilized all available resources to resolve it swiftly.

In a stern warning, the PDP declared that Nigerians are growing weary of empty gestures and demand real, strategic leadership. “The safety of our citizens should not be reduced to stagecraft,” the statement concluded. “The time has come for the Presidency to act decisively or step aside for those who will.”
