Kabiru Turaki, the newly appointed chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo supports the party’s decision to discipline Nyesom Wike and others accused of trying to harm the PDP.

In an interview with Channels Television, Turaki explained that since taking office, he has been holding high-level consultations as part of a broader plan to restore the PDP’s core values and reconnect with Nigerians.

Turaki said the PDP leadership has visited elder statesmen and senior party figures, including former military president Ibrahim Babangida and former Defence Minister General T.Y. Danjuma. These discussions focused on leadership experience, managing crises, and learning from the past.

Regarding his meeting with Obasanjo, Turaki said the former president, who was the first PDP-elected president, shared valuable insights on leadership and resolving conflicts. Obasanjo emphasized the need for discipline in any successful organization and agreed with the party’s decision to sanction those trying to destabilize the PDP.

Turaki added that the PDP will continue consulting former presidents, vice presidents, and past leaders to develop a clear strategy to reposition the party as a true people’s party and prepare it to regain national power.

He said, “We also went to meet General Obasanjo to say, look, you were there. You were the first president that was produced by PDP, and you did exemplary well. How did you manage to do ABC? Now, how did you confront them? When problems like EFC came up, how did you confront them?”

“It’s all about experience, and we had a frank discussion with him, and one of the things he was saying is that if you want to succeed in an organization, whether it’s a political party or a town union, there must be discipline.”

“Discipline must be enforced. In other words, he agreed with the decision that was taken by the convention regarding the punishment that was meted out to people who were trying to destroy the party. We will even have more visitations.”
