At the Hallelujah Mega Praise, Season 3, themed “Tehillah (Song of Praise)” in Shimawa, Ogun State, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), delivered a strong message on the necessity of transparency and accountability in Nigerian governance. Represented by Pastor Joseph Obayemi, the National Overseer Emeritus, Adeboye emphasized that the economic challenges facing Nigeria are largely self-inflicted due to a lack of integrity in leadership.
Adeboye highlighted the urgency for sincerity in managing public funds, especially in light of the recent stampedes over food palliatives, which he cited as a direct consequence of poor governance. “If corruption and bribery are eradicated, and if leaders genuinely commit to leading the nation, there will be no problem,” he declared, stressing the potential of Nigeria’s abundant resources which could be better harnessed with the right leadership qualities of determination, sincerity, faithfulness, and integrity.
Adding to Adeboye’s sentiments, Pastor Felix Ikumapayi, who oversees RCCG Province 4, spoke on the power of faith and praise in overcoming adversity. He suggested that amidst economic hardships, communal acts of worship could shift focus from problems to divine solutions. “Amid the hardship, when we devote time to praising God, we forget our challenges and open ourselves to divine solutions. God can connect us to those holding the answers to our problems,” Ikumapayi encouraged, promoting a spiritual approach to national healing and progress.
Both leaders called for immediate action from the government to pursue transparency and reform in governance. They advocated for these steps as essential to rebuilding trust and instilling hope among Nigerians, thereby fostering a collective effort towards national prosperity and peace. Their messages were not only a critique but also an encouragement for both the leaders and the populace to engage in a transformative process towards better governance and societal well-being.
