The embattled founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, Pastor Chris Okafor, on Tuesday reported at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, for questioning after initially failing to honour a police invitation issued by the Lagos State Police Command.
Okafor had ignored a directive to appear before investigators on Monday but later presented himself at the SCID on Tuesday afternoon following warnings from highly placed individuals about the consequences of disregarding a lawful police invitation.
His appearance is linked to ongoing investigations surrounding allegations involving his estranged lover, actress Doris Ogalla, as well as other accusations currently being handled at the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 2 Command in Onikan.
Sources disclosed that the pastor believed he could ignore invitations from other police units since a case he initiated was already under investigation at the zonal command, where Ogalla was earlier alleged to have been detained. However, after public reports highlighted his failure to honour the invitation, he was advised to comply.
A senior police officer said Okafor’s statement was taken at the SCID, but he was not detained because no formal complainant has yet come forward. The officer added that the police have reached out to alleged victims, offering protection and logistical support, but none has appeared so far.
The Lagos State Police Command has reportedly decided to stand down its investigation for now, allowing the Zone 2 Command to conclude its probe, while maintaining an open invitation for alleged victims to come forward.
Confirming the development, the police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said Pastor Okafor visited the SCID on Tuesday afternoon but declined to provide further details.
Okafor has been at the centre of controversy following allegations by multiple women, including claims of sexual impropriety, abuse of authority and other serious misconduct, which he has partly admitted, issuing a public apology and stepping aside as senior pastor of the church.
