Popular clergyman and founder of Power City International, Abel Damina, has sparked fresh debate after dismissing the doctrine that tithing leads to financial prosperity, insisting that such beliefs are not supported by scripture.

In a viral video shared on social media, the preacher criticized what he described as a misleading teaching widely promoted in Nigerian churches. According to him, many worshippers have been conditioned to believe that giving money to religious institutions guarantees wealth, a notion he firmly rejected.

“There’s no scripture in the Bible that says when you give to God, you’ll be a rich person,” Damina stated. He argued that giving does not automatically translate to financial gain, adding that when individuals give, they temporarily reduce their resources and must work to replenish them.

To illustrate his point, he recounted the story of a man who allegedly donated all three of his cars to his church in expectation of divine financial reward but was left struggling afterward. Damina suggested that such extreme actions highlight the dangers of unquestioned beliefs about prosperity.

The outspoken pastor, known for his unconventional theological views, emphasized that wealth is built through education, hard work, and enterprise rather than religious offerings. He maintained that individuals who attribute their financial success to tithing often overlook the real sources of their income, such as business activities or employment.

Damina further explained that God’s blessings are not transactional but are already embedded in the world. He pointed to natural resources like oil, gold, and minerals as evidence that prosperity comes from discovering and utilizing what already exists through knowledge and effort.

He concluded by urging people to focus on acquiring ss, pursuing education, and engaging in productive ventures as the true pathway to financial success.
