In a landmark move reshaping the landscape of sports broadcasting, Paramount has secured exclusive U.S. rights to broadcast Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) events in a seven-year deal valued at $7.7 billion. This agreement, announced on August 11, 2025, marks a significant shift from the traditional pay-per-view model, aiming to make UFC content more accessible to a broader audience.

Under the terms of the deal, Paramount’s streaming service, Paramount+, will become the exclusive home for all UFC events starting in 2026. This includes 13 major numbered events and 30 “Fight Nights” annually, with select marquee fights also set to air on CBS. The move is expected to eliminate the pay-per-view model, allowing subscribers to access all UFC content at no additional cost.

The agreement follows Paramount’s recent merger with Skydance Media, which was finalized in July 2025. David Ellison, CEO of the newly formed Paramount Skydance Corporation, emphasized the strategic importance of live sports in driving subscriber growth and engagement. He described UFC as a “global sports powerhouse” and highlighted the value of its year-round events in attracting and retaining subscribers.

For the UFC, the partnership with Paramount offers a substantial financial boost and a broader platform for its events. The organization, owned by TKO Group Holdings, stages approximately 43 live events annually, reaching a global fanbase of nearly 950 million households. The shift to a streaming model is anticipated to enhance accessibility and viewership, aligning with evolving consumer preferences for on-demand content.

The deal also paves the way for innovative broadcasting initiatives. UFC President Dana White has confirmed plans to host a major event on July 4, 2026, on the South Lawn of the White House to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States. This unprecedented event will be broadcast live on CBS, showcasing the potential for high-profile collaborations between the UFC and Paramount.

Analysts view the agreement as a strategic move by Paramount to strengthen its position in the competitive streaming market. By securing exclusive rights to a major sports property, Paramount aims to differentiate itself from competitors like Netflix and Disney, who have also invested heavily in sports content. The deal underscores the growing importance of live sports in attracting and retaining subscribers in the evolving media landscape.

As the partnership progresses, both Paramount and the UFC are expected to explore additional opportunities to enhance fan engagement and expand their reach. The integration of UFC content into Paramount’s platforms is poised to redefine the viewing experience for MMA fans, offering unprecedented access and convenience.

This development signifies a new era for sports broadcasting, where strategic partnerships and innovative distribution models are reshaping how fans consume live sports content. The collaboration between Paramount and the UFC is set to set a precedent for future media rights agreements, highlighting the evolving dynamics of the sports entertainment industry.
