Pakistan experienced widespread power shortages on January 29 2026 as energy officials reported fuel supply constraints and rising electricity demand. Several major cities including Karachi Lahore and Islamabad were affected by rolling outages that disrupted households businesses and essential services.

Government representatives said delays in fuel imports combined with maintenance issues at power plants reduced generation capacity. Cold weather in some regions increased demand placing additional pressure on the national grid. Authorities acknowledged public frustration and said emergency measures were being implemented to ilize supply.

The energy ministry said efforts were underway to secure additional fuel shipments and optimize power distribution. Officials also urged consumers to conserve electricity during peak hours. Analysts noted that structural challenges including debt in the power sector and reliance on imported fuel continue to make the system vulnerable.
