The Oyo State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the suspected murder of a 62 year old woman in the Ori Apata Oderemi area of Ido, Ibadan, as well as the apprehension of two robbery suspects in a separate intelligence led operation.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the Command disclosed that the lifeless body of the woman was discovered by a good Samaritan along a bush path within the community. The deceased was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on her neck. Preliminary findings indicated that the body had been at the location for at least seven days before it was discovered.
Detectives promptly sealed off the scene, while forensic experts were deployed to gather evidence aimed at identifying and prosecuting those responsible. The body was evacuated to the morgue at Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post mortem examination. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for comprehensive investigation.
Preliminary investigations led to the arrest of two residents of the area, who are currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries. The incident initially sparked protests by aggrieved family members and sympathisers, but the situation was brought under control through the intervention of the Divisional Police Officer of Ido Division and the Local Government Chairman.
The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, visited the community alongside government officials to commiserate with the bereaved family and directed enhanced security deployments to ensure sustained peace.
In a separate operation, acting on credible intelligence, operatives arrested two robbery suspects along Elebu Oja off Alao Akala Expressway. Two toy pistols and illicit drugs were recovered, while the suspects allegedly confessed to multiple robbery incidents. They remain in custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
