Oyo and Bayelsa Governors Call for Humility Kindness and Peace During Eid-el-Fitr

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde on Friday urged the Muslim Ummah to embrace humility, kindness, and forgiveness while continuing to uphold the teachings of the Holy Quran beyond the Ramadan period. The message was delivered through Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal during a Sallah homage by Muslim faithful including clerics and political office holders to the governor’s residence in Ibadan.

According to a statement by Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor expressed appreciation to the Muslim community for their patriotism prayers and commitment, noting that the peace and ility enjoyed in Oyo State had translated into overall development and harmonious coexistence among residents.

“Let me use this occasion to urge our Muslim Ummah to always imbibe the spirit of humility, kindness, and forgiveness, and also abide by the doctrines and lessons taught by the Holy Quran beyond the Ramadan period,” Makinde said. Special prayers were offered for the success of his administration and for peace and progress in the state and the country.

The delegation included former Deputy Governor and PDP National Secretary Taofeek Arapaja, members of the House of Representatives, the Secretary to the State Government Musibau Babatunde, commissioners, local government chairmen, and other top officials.

Similarly, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri called on Muslim faithful to use Eid-el-Fitr as an opportunity to promote love, unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. Represented by Deputy Governor Peter Akpe, Diri encouraged Muslims to reflect on their role in fostering peace, emphasising that meaningful development cannot thrive without a peaceful environment.

The event also saw appeals from the Muslim community for infrastructure support, including a state secretariat and an 18-seater bus, with assurances that the government would consider these requests within available resources. Religious leaders praised the administration for its consistent support during Ramadan and highlighted Eid as a period of spiritual growth and reconciliation.
