The Osun State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat illegal activities associated with the proscribed Yoruba Nation movement. During a suspects’ parade at the Command headquarters in Osogbo on Wednesday, Deputy Police Public Relations Officer Giwa-Alade Emmanuel announced the arrest of several individuals linked to the banned group.
Among those paraded were 61-year-old Fagbayi Oluwafemi, 63-year-old Joy Faseyeku, and 64-year-old Alabede Janet. The arrests come as part of a broader crackdown on the Yoruba Nation, which has been banned by the Nigerian government due to its advocacy for the secession of the Yoruba-speaking regions.
Giwa-Alade Emmanuel briefed journalists on the progress of the operation, emphasizing the police’s commitment to maintaining public order and security. The arrests are part of ongoing efforts to address the activities of groups deemed a threat to national unity and stability.
The Yoruba Nation movement has been a controversial topic in Nigerian politics, with supporters calling for greater autonomy for the Yoruba people and critics accusing the movement of undermining national cohesion. The arrests in Osun State reflect heightened security measures as the government seeks to address and suppress activities associated with secessionist groups.
As the investigation continues, the Osun State Police Command’s actions underscore the authorities‘ determination to prevent the spread of activities linked to banned organizations and ensure the preservation of national unity.
