The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has downplayed Governor Ademola Adeleke’s recent defection to the Accord Party, insisting the move will not improve his chances in the 2026 governorship election.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and released on Wednesday in Osogbo, the APC accused Adeleke of abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its elected officials for personal gain. The party said the governor’s switch, which was formalized at the Government House on Tuesday, came as no surprise.

“The governor’s decision to join a new party did not offer any advantage,” the APC stated, alleging that Adeleke’s administration has been marked by “deceit and subterfuge.”

The party further claimed that Adeleke had previously approached other political parties but was turned away, questioning the strength of his political standing. “If Adeleke’s administration and political approaches are such a reason of pride, would he have been shamefully rejected by those political parties he earlier begged to accept him?” the statement asked.

Describing the Accord Party as lacking national relevance, the APC pointed out that it holds no governorship seats and has limited political influence across the country.

Lawal concluded by saying that Adeleke’s defection would ultimately work in the APC’s favor, making it easier for the party to unseat him in the upcoming election.
