Senator Adams Oshiomhole has dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party’s claim that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first year in office was a “waste.” Speaking to reporters in Benin, he also questioned why the media still give attention to what he called “a dead party.”
He urged journalists to report verified facts from events around the state rather than repeat statements that lack credibility. Oshiomhole said the PDP failed to deliver real results when it was in power and relied too much on ground‑breaking ceremonies with little follow‑through.
Oshiomhole said Governor Okpebholo took over a state that had been neglected for eight years and has already begun visible projects. He pointed to the flyover at Ramat Park, which he said will ease traffic on a busy corridor and cut travel time and fuel waste benefits that have clear economic value.
He also listed many road projects under way across Edo State as proof of the current administration’s focus on real works rather than slogans. On education, Oshiomhole accused the previous government of leaving schools short of teachers and with broken facilities. He said Okpebholo has started repairs and improvements, restoring better learning conditions in many schools.
The senator noted that higher education funding has improved, with Ambrose Alli University and Edo University, Iyamho receiving restored or increased subventions. These moves, he said, have helped calm long‑running industrial disputes and stabilise those institutions.
Oshiomhole criticised the former administration for stirring unrest in the Benin Kingdom by promoting dukes to kings and imposing traditional rulers without proper process. He said those issues have now been settled and normalcy has returned under the current government.
On national matters, Oshiomhole said his work in the National Assembly covers the whole country but that he remains committed to projects that matter to Edo State. He recalled pressing for urgent repairs to the Benin‑Auchi‑Okene road, which had become dangerous and caused long delays for motorists.
He said his first Senate motion called for action on that road and that he and Senator Monday Okpebholo asked President Bola Tinubu to look for funding beyond the annual budget. The road is now under construction, and Oshiomhole said it remains his top federal priority for Edo North.
