Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents Abia North, has praised President Bola Tinubu for choosing to remain in Nigeria instead of traveling abroad, following a wave of violent incidents across the country.

Tinubu had been scheduled to attend the 20th G20 Summit in South Africa and later the 7th AU-EU Summit in Angola. However, he called off the trip after receiving reports of increased bandit activity and security concerns.

In a video shared online, Kalu expressed support for the president’s decision, saying it shows he is deeply concerned about the country’s current situation.

He said, “The President is human and for the last 24 hours, the President has been very sad. He heard about Ilorin. He has been very sad and all his commitments in Angola and other parts of the world has been cancelled.”

Kalu continued, “Honestly, I want to commend President Tinubu for the decision he has taken to stay back to mourn the girls and have serious inhouse meeting with the security operatives of Nigeria. He is very concerned and very bothered and we are bothered in the National Assembly.”

He also pointed out that the governor of Taraba State postponed his planned defection to the APC, citing the same security concerns. According to Kalu, this reflects the somber mood across the country.

“The mood of the Nation..you can see also the governor of Taraba state who is supposed to be declaring for the APC today, cancelled the whole event because of this same problem. Many activities have gone down, President Tinubu has shown leadership, shown concern, fatherly care for the children kidnapped in Kebbi. This is how it should be,” he added.

Kalu’s remarks come as Nigerians continue to demand stronger action against insecurity, especially in light of recent kidnappings and s.
