The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the alleged attempted murder of a woman in Akure, the state capital.
DSP Jimoh Kazeem, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed on Wednesday, January 7, 2025, that the suspects were apprehended following a distress call from a woman identified as Fasuru, a resident of the Oke Ijebu area.
Police operatives from the Ijapo Divisional Police Headquarters reportedly responded swiftly and found the two men, identified as Sodiq and Emmanuel, allegedly attacking the woman. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had assaulted Fasuru until she lost consciousness.
The police intervened, rescued the victim, and rushed her to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment. The suspects are now in police custody for interrogation, while the matter has been handed over to the Command Monitoring Unit for detailed investigation and prosecution.
Ondo State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, warned residents against involvement in violent acts, emphasizing that such offences carry serious consequences. He assured the public of the command’s readiness to address complaints promptly and reiterated the commitment to ensuring justice.
The police chief also urged residents to remain law-abiding and provide timely and credible information to help prevent crime and protect lives and property across the state.
