Oluremi Tinubu Applauds Governors Wives as Nigeria Records 14 Million New Birth Registrations

The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has commended the wives of governors across the nation for their vital role in achieving a 14 million increase in birth registrations over the past two years. The milestone was announced in Abuja following a visit by the UNICEF delegation to the State House.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the UNICEF Country Representative, Ms Wafaa Elfadil Saeed Abdelatef, shared the encouraging update during a meeting with the First Lady at the State House in Abuja. The increase represents significant progress in ensuring that more children in Nigeria have legal identity and access to essential services.

Mrs Tinubu noted that the achievement reflects the dedication of coordinators of the Renewed Hope Initiative across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. She expressed appreciation to the State First Ladies and partners who have worked tirelessly to advance child rights and protection.

Beyond birth registration, the First Lady also praised stakeholders for progress in combating HIV AIDS, tuberculosis, cervical cancer, syphilis, hepatitis B, Female Genital Mutilation, neglected tropical diseases, and vaccine preventable diseases. She emphasized that collaboration, sustained action, and strong commitment remain essential to achieving lasting health improvements nationwide.

Mrs Tinubu urged all partners not to relent in their efforts, stressing that continued determination could enable the country to eliminate many preventable diseases before the 2030 global target. She reaffirmed her commitment to supporting initiatives that safeguard the identity, health, and future of every Nigerian child.
