The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has pledged unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s administration through to 2031. This declaration was made in a statement released over the weekend by the factional Deputy President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Chinenyeze Ohia.
Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for the completion of all major projects in the South-East region ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the importance of sustained development in the zone.
The organization praised President Tinubu’s appointment of David Umahi as Minister of Works, highlighting that this is the first time in 74 years—since 1951—that an Igbo individual has held this critical position. They commended Umahi’s role in the temporary opening of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a significant achievement that has improved festive season travel and provided relief to millions, especially commuters in Lagos.
Ohanaeze stated, “Without hesitation, we, the Ndigbo, declare forthrightly: for the first time since 2015, we are witnessing a political landscape where all five Southeast Governors, all five Igbo Ministers, and the entire Southeast region stand unwaveringly loyal to President Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.”
The group also acknowledged the Federal Government’s transparency in governance throughout 2025, particularly praising the proactive involvement of anti-corruption agencies like the EFCC and ICPC. Their audits of financial transactions and contractor performances have ensured timely payments and reinforced accountability, strengthening adherence to contracts between the government and both domestic and foreign contractors.
Looking ahead, Ohanaeze urged the Federal Government to create opportunities in 2026 that allow local Nigerian contractors to compete fairly with foreign firms.
Reflecting on the substantial infrastructural investment of ₦1.5 trillion directed toward road projects in the Southeast, the organization commended President Tinubu for his “unparalleled benevolence” and commitment to regional development.
