The Ogun State House of Assembly has officially passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill amounting to N1,054,542,020,147, as initially presented by Governor Dapo Abiodun 20 days prior. This legislative action involved fine-tuning the financial allocations, particularly targeting adjustments in the operational and capital expenditures of various state agencies.
During a plenary session held on Tuesday at the assembly complex in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, the process of adopting the budget was meticulously followed. The House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, under the leadership of Chairman Musefiu Lamidi, presented their findings, leading to a motion for the bill’s adoption, which was seconded by Deputy Chairman Wahab Haruna. The session, presided over by Speaker Oludaisi Elemide, saw unanimous support from all members, culminating in the bill’s third reading, moved by Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff and seconded by Minority Leader Lukman Adeleye.
The adjustments made were quite specific, affecting 21 agencies in terms of recurrent expenditures and five agencies regarding capital expenditures. Additionally, the revenue targets of two agencies were revised. The Ministry of Budget and Planning saw its budget increase by N427 million to N1.902 billion, while the Ministry of Community Development and Cooperatives received an additional N719 million, bringing its total to N2.499 billion. The Ministry of Health’s budget was augmented by N310 million to reach N4.116 billion, and the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission’s budget was raised to N35.912 billion.
In terms of public safety and environmental management, the Ogun State Security Network (Amotekun) experienced a significant budget increase to N1.575 billion, highlighting the state’s commitment to security. Similarly, the Ogun State Environment Protection Agency and the Ogun State Library Board also saw their budgets enhanced to N262 million and N177 million respectively.
The passage of this bill through the assembly reflects a strategic approach to governance, focusing on improving service delivery, security, education, and health sectors. After the third reading by the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Sakiru Adebakin, the bill was directed to be sent to Governor Abiodun for his assent, marking the final step in its legislative journey. This budget not only aims to maintain but also to enhance the state’s infrastructure and services, setting a hopeful tone for Ogun State’s development in 2025.
