Prominent businessman and socialite, Obi Iyiegbu, widely known as Obi Cubana, has confirmed his appointment as the South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement. The Anambra-born entrepreneur disclosed this development after receiving his appointment letter from Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu.
Iyiegbu made the announcement in a post shared on his official Instagram page on Tuesday, revealing that Seyi Tinubu visited his residence on Monday night to formally present the certificate of appointment. He described the visit as cordial and meaningful, noting that both men engaged in extensive discussions on a wide range of issues.
“Last night, my long-time friend and brother, Seyi Tinubu, paid me a visit at my home. We held great conversations about everything,” Iyiegbu wrote. He added that the meeting also created an opportunity to deliberate on matters of national interest and the future of Nigeria.
Reacting to the mixed public reactions that followed the announcement of his new role, the nightlife entrepreneur defended his decision to accept the appointment. According to him, meaningful and lasting change can only be achieved through active participation rather than remaining on the sidelines.
“I’m fully aware of the varied reactions it has sparked. My belief remains firm: lasting change comes from constructive engagement, not standing apart,” he stated. Declaring his loyalty to the movement, Iyiegbu said his influence would be more impactful from within, describing himself as a committed member of the City Boy Movement.
He further assured Nigerians that the appointment would not compromise his personal values, community development efforts, or leadership principles. Describing President Bola Tinubu as “a City Boy and a man of commerce,” Iyiegbu said his focus would be on promoting inclusiveness and unity.
Calling for tolerance and mutual respect, he urged Nigerians to embrace diverse opinions and remain focused on national development. He also thanked his supporters for their goodwill, pledging to work toward a more inclusive and prosperous future for the country.
