The leadership of the Senator Nenadi Usman-led interim National Working Committee (INWC) has officially inaugurated a 15 member steering committee tasked with surpassing the Labour Party’s performance in the 2023 presidential election.
The committee has been charged with restoring the party’s credibility and mobilizing over ten million members through new registrations and a membership revalidation exercise.
Senator Usman gave the charge on Wednesday in Abuja during the inauguration ceremony, emphasizing the need to bridge gaps of non-inclusivity and counter the perception of a one-party system in Nigeria.
“As we are all aware, our party, like many opposition political platforms in Nigeria, has recently faced intense challenges and distractions. I am pleased to state that most of these issues have been decisively resolved by the courts, while the few remaining matters are still before the judiciary. We remain confident they will soon be conclusively settled in the interest of justice and democracy,” she said.
Preparing for the upcoming election season, the Labour Party aims to reposition, reorganize, and strengthen itself for greater responsibilities and opportunities ahead. The membership revalidation and registration exercise was formally launched as part of this strategy.
Since assuming leadership, Senator Nenadi highlighted that expanding and consolidating the party’s membership base has been a top priority. However, earlier challenges delayed the timely start of the exercise.
“With the launch today and the newly approved timetable, I am confident we will recover lost ground and emerge stronger, more united, and better prepared for the task ahead,” she stated.
She called on all existing members to revalidate their membership and invited Nigerians of goodwill, especially those who believe in good governance, social justice, accountability, and people-oriented leadership to register and formally join the Labour Party.
The exercise will run from now until January 20, 2026, across all wards, local government areas, and states of the federation.
Senator Usman reassured Nigerians that the Labour Party remains committed to being a credible, people driven political alternative and urged them to continue placing their hope and confidence in the party as the vehicle to rescue the nation from poor leadership and restore dignity, opportunity, and prosperity to Nigerians.
