Dan Nwanyanwu, former presidential candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), has cautioned former President Goodluck Jonathan against returning to the political stage in 2027, saying those urging him to run again are the same ones who turned their backs on him in 2015.

Speaking during an interview, Nwanyanwu said the push for Jonathan’s comeback is not genuine. He believes the people behind it are only trying to use him to fix the problems they helped create.

“I have not spoken with President Jonathan. I intend to see him very soon, but I think he should tarry for a while. Because the same people that are calling him were the same people that betrayed an honest man, betrayed a good man. A man who had a good conscience, they betrayed him.

“They want to use him now to clean their mess. The thing has not gotten to a point. When it gets to a point they realise what they have done, alright?” he said.

Nwanyanwu also pointed out that many political parties are struggling because their members often ignore the rules. He stressed the importance of respecting constitutional guidelines, especially when it comes to power rotation.

He added that the South still deserves another four years in power, but noted that expressing such views might be misinterpreted as support for President Bola Tinubu.

“Political parties have their problems. You see, the issue is that we have all refused, most of us don’t obey the rules. And this one I said, you have something in the Constitution, by rules that power will come here, go there. As I’m talking to you now, I believe that the South should have another four years. If I say it now, they will say I am supporting President Tinubu,” he said.

Nwanyanwu’s remarks come amid growing speculation about Jonathan’s possible return to the presidential race, with some political figures reportedly lobbying for his candidacy in 2027.
