North-Central APC Forum Claims Tinubu’s Plateau Appointments Rewards the Wrong People

The North-Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concerns over federal appointments coming from Plateau State, claiming that individuals who didn’t support President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 campaign are the ones being rewarded.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Forum responded to the rejection of Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s potential move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC. While the Forum has been pushing for Mutfwang to join the ruling party, some APC leaders in Plateau have opposed the idea, passing a resolution to block his defection.

Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, a member of the APC’s 2023 campaign council, signed the statement, which urged President Tinubu to step in and support efforts to bring Mutfwang into the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

The Forum pointed out that key appointments from Plateau such as Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was first named Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and later APC National Chairman, and Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro, who replaced him as minister went to individuals who didn’t deliver results during the last election.

They noted that even the APC’s former governorship running mate in Plateau lost his polling unit and ward to the PDP, yet is still being considered for federal roles.

“We want to inform President Bola Tinubu that he is making wrong appointments in Plateau State. We want to bring to his attention the glaring and unfortunate fact that those who worked for him are not being given appointments, they have been left stranded while those who did not even vote for him are getting big appointments at the national level,” the statement read.

The Forum added that many of those now holding federal positions couldn’t even secure wins in their own polling units, where Labour Party candidate Peter Obi reportedly performed better.

They also accused these appointees of blocking efforts to bring Mutfwang into the APC, not for the party’s benefit, but to protect their own political ambitions for 2027.

PDP Challenges Tinubu’s Response to National Insecurity

“These people that are getting appointments did not vote for President Bola Tinubu in the last election. In fact, most of them are not even politically active they lack knowledge of national politics. They have not even served as party delegates or in any other capacity. They are getting big federal appointments even when they don’t know anything about politics,” the Forum stated.

The group urged Tinubu to take a closer look at the election results from Plateau and reconsider who is truly working for the party’s growth. They believe bringing Mutfwang into the APC would strengthen the party’s base in the North-Central region and help deliver the six million votes they had earlier promised the President.

They concluded by warning that internal divisions could hurt the party’s future if left unchecked, calling on Tinubu to act swiftly to prevent further damage.
