Dr Tosin Odeyemi, chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in Osun State, has said the party is a national movement and not confined to Kano State. He made the remark in response to Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, who recently called NNPP a “Kano party”.
Oyinlola spoke as he weighed which party Governor Ademola Adeleke might use for a second term. Odeyemi said that view was mistaken and pointed out that the NNPP existed before it won in Kano.
Odeyemi added that NNPP’s 2023 victory in Kano reflected the will of the voters and should not be compared with parties that have never held power. He praised Governor Abba Yusuf as a strong representative of NNPP and said the governor’s programs show what the party can deliver for the people.
He challenged Oyinlola to name any state where the Accord Party that he supports has governed and to list its record there. Odeyemi recalled the early days of the Alliance for Democracy and how Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led Lagos as the party’s only governor before wider support followed his work.
Odeyemi predicted that NNPP will expand into more states by 2027, using the achievements of the Kano governor. He also said that Governor Adeleke would be welcome to join NNPP if he chooses to contest under its banner.
