The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) on Thursday announced its readiness to supply the Portland Gas Limited Mini LNG LCNG Station in Gwagwalada, Abuja, from the Ajaokuta Kaduna Kano (AKK) Pipeline.

Speaking at a stakeholders’ workshop on emerging investment opportunities in the station, NNPCL Executive Vice President for Power Gas and New Energy, Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, said the project will not only release gas but also drive productivity, industrial growth, and economic renewal.

Representing him, NNPCL Manager Business Development, Mr. Kachalla Suleiman, said, “The countdown to July 2026 has begun. When the first valve opens in Gwagwalada, it will release productivity, industrial growth, and economic renewal. To Portland Gas, your facility is a strategic pioneer along the AKK corridor. NNPCL stands ready to fuel your ambition.”

The station is expected to be completed within 12 to 16 months, with the Ajaokuta Gwagwalada segment of the AKK projected for commissioning in July 2026. This will link northern industrial zones to Nigeria’s gas fields and address national energy deficits.

Ogunleye highlighted that the project unlocks northern industrial demand, competitive power generation, manufacturing growth, Auto CNG and Mini LNG expansion, and employment across the energy value chain. He added that Gwagwalada was chosen for its strategic transport location connecting Kogi and other northern hubs.

The Mini LNG LCNG station will fuel vehicles, power industries, reduce diesel dependence, and strengthen energy resilience. Designed to be modular and scalable, it allows phased expansion as demand grows, reducing capital risk and supporting flexible returns.

Portland Gas CEO, Engr. Folajimi Mohammed, described the station as pivotal to Nigeria’s economic transformation, while NESG Chairman, Mr. Olaniyi Yusuf, said disciplined execution will turn the project from concept to productivity.
