The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted widespread dust haze and cloudy conditions across the country from Sunday through Tuesday, with localized thunderstorms in some coastal areas.
According to NiMet’s outlook released on Sunday, moderate dust haze is expected over the northern region on Monday and Tuesday, while the central region is likely to experience thick dust haze throughout the forecast period. Inland cities in the southern region are also expected to see moderate dust haze, while coastal cities will enjoy sunny skies with patches of clouds.
NiMet further forecast isolated thunderstorms with light rains later in the day over parts of Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States. By Wednesday, thick dust haze is expected to persist in the northern region, with moderate dust haze in the central region and southern inland areas, while the coastal cities remain partly cloudy.
The agency advised the public to take precautions against dust particles in suspension, particularly people with asthma and other respiratory conditions. Motorists are urged to drive carefully in rainy conditions, while airline operators are advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for flight planning.
