The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has approved the appointment of Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information and official spokesperson of the Nigerian Navy. The appointment took effect on Tuesday.

Captain Folorunsho took over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who has been redeployed to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT as its new Commander. The ce in leadership is part of the Nigerian Navy’s routine strategic redeployments aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and public communication.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief of Policy and Plans (Navy), Rear Admiral A.O. Olodude, Captain Folorunsho is a distinguished officer and a member of the 50 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). Prior to his appointment, he served as Assistant Director, Plans/CNS Directive, at the Naval Headquarters, a role that placed him at the core of policy formulation and strategic planning within the service.

The newly appointed naval spokesperson holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy and a Master of Science degree in War Stus (Maritime) from the National Defence University, Islamabad, Pakistan. His academic background is complemented by extensive professional training and operational exposure.

Captain Folorunsho has participated in numerous local, national, and international engagements involving the Nigerian Navy, sister services, and other tri-service organizations. He has also served as a resource person on public speaking and protocol management at several professional military education institutions across Nigeria.

In addition, the statement noted that he possesses deep experience in military public relations, having contributed editorially to several magazines and journals within various units of the Nigerian Armed Forces. This exposure, the Navy said, positions him well to manage the service’s image, information dissemination, and strategic communication with the public.

His appointment comes at a time when effective communication remains critical to naval operations, national security awareness, and civil-military relations.
