A Nigerian woman, Deborah Boms, has shared her emotional journey of trying to secure a visa-sponsored job in the United Kingdom after completing her studies, highlighting the challenges faced by international graduates abroad.

In a heartfelt video on social media, Deborah documented her transition from an eager international student to a graduate forced to return to Nigeria due to visa and employment barriers. She revealed that she applied for approximately 3,000 jobs and attended 24 interviews, yet none resulted in a position that would allow her to remain in the UK legally.

The video begins with an emotional phone call to her parents in Nigeria, where her father reassured her, saying, “We’re waiting for you. We cannot reject our own.” Throughout the clip, Deborah opened up about the unseen struggles behind her apparent success, including the financial and emotional toll of her prolonged job search.

“At some point, I stopped counting,” she said. “None of them worked out—it just never clicked.” She explained that while many people saw her adapt to life in the UK, attend school, and graduate, few understood how close she was to losing everything she had worked for.

Deborah’s story has resonated widely online, particularly among international students and young professionals facing similar challenges with visa restrictions and employment opportunities abroad.

Her experience underscores the broader difficulties of navigating post-study work visas and highlights the need for increased awareness and support for international graduates seeking employment in foreign countries.
