The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has designated Sunday, December 7, 2025, as a nationwide day of prayer to seek divine intervention against what it refers to as the “Christian genocide” occurring in the country. This decision was reached during the National Executive Council meeting on November 18, 2025, in Jos, Plateau State.

In a circular dated November 20, 2025, CAN’s General Secretary, Apostle Professor Samson A. Fatokun, urged church leaders and pastors to rally their congregations for this nationwide prayer session, which will take place across all Christian denominations in Nigeria. The prayer focuses on several key issues, including invoking divine intervention to stop ongoing violence against Christians, aiding the resettlement of displaced individuals, curbing terrorist activities, and seeking wisdom for government officials to effectively address these challenges. The goal is to restore peace and tranquility throughout Nigeria.

Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, President of CAN, emphasized the urgency of this prayer, encouraging church leaders to approach it with fervor and confidence in God’s intervention. He referenced biblical passages from 2 Chronicles 7:14 and Esther 4:15–16 to support the call for intercession.

CAN has been outspoken about the adversities facing Christian communities, including targeted ings, displacements, and the destruction of homes. The association advocates for both national and international support to ensure the safety of Christians in Nigeria.

As the date approaches, churches across the nation are preparing through vigils, fasting, and dedicated services, reinforcing CAN’s commitment to safeguarding faith and promoting unity among believers. The organization hopes that earnest prayers will lead to the restoration of security and peace in the country.
