Nigerian army troops have reportedly eliminated a son of Bello Turji, a well-known terrorist and bandit leader, during coordinated attacks on his hideouts in Zamfara State. The operation, as detailed by Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication, was executed by officers from Operation Fansan Yanma.
The military strikes involved both air and ground forces targeting key hideouts in Fakai, a significant stronghold for Turji and his associates located in the Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara. According to intelligence sources, these attacks not only resulted in the death of Turji’s son but also led to the loss of several high-ranking lieutenants within his group.
The operation caused considerable panic among the bandits, with reports indicating that Turji himself was heard on the radio desperately seeking support from seven other bandit leaders, none of whom responded to his call for help. This has been interpreted as a significant blow to Turji’s network and morale.
This military success was underscored by the escape of one of Turji’s spies, highlighting the intense pressure and disarray within the bandit group following the assault. The operation signifies a major step in the Nigerian military’s ongoing efforts to curb banditry and terrorism in northwestern Nigeria.
