The Nigerian Air Force has reactivated its Super Puma helicopter with registration number NAF 565, marking a significant step in strengthening its operational capability after the aircraft was previously grounded due to unserviceability.

The Service said the reactivation reflects ongoing efforts to sustain airpower and enhance mission effectiveness in support of national security objectives. The restoration was achieved through the combined efforts of retired Air Commodore T A Badru, the Air Officer Commanding Mobility Command, and personnel of the 205 Rotary Wing.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Nigerian Air Force spokesman, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, confirmed that the aircraft was formally reactivated on Tuesday by the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.

Speaking during the reactivation ceremony, Aneke described the return of the Super Puma as more than just the recovery of an aircraft. He said it symbolised the Air Force commitment to building a professional, motivated, and mission ready force capable of responding to evolving security challenges across the country.

According to the Air Chief, restoring key platforms within the Air Force inventory remains central to improving national security and ensuring readiness across multiple theatres of operation. He explained that the Super Puma is one of the most versatile rotary wing aircraft in the Nigerian Air Force, playing a crucial role in troop transport, casualty evacuation, search and rescue, and logistics support.

Aneke noted that the helicopter has previously proven its value during Operation Hadin Kai and other joint operations. He added that its return will strengthen maritime security operations in Lagos and reinforce counterinsurgency and anti banditry efforts nationwide.

The Air Chief commended all individuals involved in the project and urged operators and maintenance personnel to strictly observe safety and maintenance standards to keep the aircraft serviceable. He also acknowledged the National Assembly for its financial support to Air Force operations.

The reactivation of the Super Puma forms part of broader efforts by the Nigerian Air Force to restore critical assets, improve operational tempo, and enhance its ability to respond effectively to security threats across the country.
