The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has continued Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements by receiving the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Nigeria, His Excellency Muhannad Halmouri, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
According to a statement released on Wednesday, the meeting formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Nigeria and the State of Palestine. It also provided an opportunity for both parties to review consular matters, humanitarian concerns, and regional issues of shared interest. The Ministry noted that such engagements reflect Nigeria’s commitment to dialogue, cooperation, and peaceful international relations.
The discussions highlighted Nigeria’s longstanding support for diplomatic solutions and its interest in maintaining cordial relations with countries across the Middle East. While details of the talks were not disclosed, officials described the meeting as constructive and forward looking.
In a separate engagement, Tuggar also hosted the Minister of Hajj and Umrah Matters of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr Tawfiq Bin Fawzan Rabia, alongside members of his delegation. That meeting took place on Tuesday and focused on strengthening cooperation in pilgrimage management and consular affairs. The talks aimed at improving coordination to ensure smoother experiences for Nigerian pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for religious duties.
These diplomatic activities come at a time of heightened security collaboration involving Nigeria. On Tuesday, the United States deployed a small team of troops to Nigeria, marking the first official United States military presence in the country since airstrikes were carried out against terrorist groups on Christmas Day 2025.
Officials said the deployment followed agreements between the Federal Government of Nigeria and Washington to enhance cooperation against rising terrorist threats in West Africa. The move underscores growing international concern over regional security challenges and Nigeria’s role in addressing them.
Together, the recent diplomatic meetings and security cooperation efforts signal Nigeria’s active engagement on both foreign policy and security fronts, as it seeks to strengthen international partnerships while addressing internal and regional challenges.
