All arrangements are in place for Nigeria’s Davis Cup World Group II tie against Uzbekistan, scheduled for February 7–8, 2026, in Lagos. Organisers confirmed full readiness in technical, security, and logistical areas ahead of the international men’s team tennis fixture.

The announcement came at a joint media briefing by the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) and Lagos Lawn Tennis Club 1895. NTF President Victor Ochei described the hosting rights as a testament to Nigeria’s growing status in international tennis.

“This hosting opportunity reflects Nigeria’s steady rise in international tennis following consistent performances in recent years,” Ochei said, noting that it also demonstrates the confidence of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) in Nigeria’s organisational capacity, infrastructure, and security arrangements.

The Davis Cup, the premier international men’s team tennis competition, is structured across multiple tiers, with World Group II being highly competitive. Nations in this tier contest promotion to World Group I.

The Lagos tie will be played over two days and consist of five rubbers—four singles and one doubles match. Practice courts will be available from February 2, giving both teams ample preparation time.

Ochei highlighted that the event goes beyond tennis, expecting it to stimulate sports tourism, economic activity, and youth development, while strengthening Nigeria’s reputation as a reliable host of international sporting events. He also noted support from the National Sports Commission in funding and delivery.

To ensure smooth execution, the NTF constituted a 15-member Central Planning Committee chaired by Victor Hembah. The committee works in collaboration with the ITF, National Sports Commission, Lagos State Government, security agencies, and the host club. Hembah emphasised the importance of media coverage to boost fan engagement and attendance.

“Media and publicity are critical to the success of this event,” he said. “We are deploying robust, real-time coverage across broadcast and digital platforms to ensure widespread visibility and strong spectator presence.”

Dr Adeyinka Adewusi, President of Lagos Lawn Tennis Club 1895, assured that the historic club is fully prepared to host the tie, offering secure, world-class courts and top-tier hospitality. The club, which recently celebrated 130 years of existence, has a long tradition of hosting international competitions.

The NTF board, including Mrs Funmi Adako and Mr Yemi Owosheni, attended the briefing. Organisers said that details regarding match schedules, ticketing, accreditation, and official side events will be announced in the coming weeks.
