Netherlands Launches Housing Market ilization Plan

The Dutch government announced a housing market ilization plan on January 31 2026 aimed at easing affordability pressures and increasing supply. Officials said the reforms target rising rents limited housing availability and barriers faced by first time buyers.

The plan includes measures to accelerate construction regulate rental increases and support local authorities in zoning reforms. Financial incentives will be provided for social housing and energy efficient renovations.

Housing advocates welcomed efforts to expand supply but cautioned that implementation will be key. Economists said balancing market ility with investor confidence remains a challenge.
