NBS Reports 1,374 Road Crash Deaths in Nigeria During Q4 2025

The National Bureau of Statistics has reported that 1,374 people d from road traffic accidents in Nigeria during the fourth quarter of 2025 with males accounting for the majority of the fatalities.

The figures were released in the bureau Road Transport Data report for the period covering October to December 2025. According to the report a total of 1,085 males and 289 females lost their lives in road crashes during the quarter.

The data also revealed that Nigeria recorded 2,731 road traffic crashes in the fourth quarter of 2025 representing an increase of 12.2 percent compared with the 2,434 crashes reported in the third quarter of the same year.

The report further showed that the number of accidents also increased by 6.72 percent when compared with the 2,559 crashes recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.

In terms of severity serious crashes accounted for the highest number with 1,775 cases. Fatal crashes followed with 677 cases while minor crashes were the least recorded with 279 incidents.

Analysis of fatalities by gender showed that men were significantly more affected by road accidents. According to the report males accounted for 78.97 percent of the total deaths while females represented 21.03 percent.

The report also highlighted the number of injured victims during the period. A total of 6,561 males were injured representing 75.19 percent of all injured persons while 2,165 females were injured accounting for 24.81 percent.

The bureau further revealed that 4,059 vehicles were involved in road accidents in the fourth quarter of 2025. This represents a 9.41 percent increase compared with the 3,710 vehicles recorded in the previous quarter.

Regional analysis showed that the South West Nigeria recorded the highest number of crashes with 763 cases followed by North Central Nigeria with 744 cases while South South Nigeria recorded the lowest with 152 crashes.

However the highest number of casualties was recorded in North Central Nigeria with 2,649 victims followed by North West Nigeria with 2,497 casualties. The South South region recorded the lowest casualty figure with 420.

The statistics highlight the growing concern over road safety in Nigeria and underscore the need for stronger enforcement of traffic regulations improved road infrastructure and increased public awareness to reduce accidents and fatalities.
