Miguel Gutiérrez, the 24-year-old Spanish left-back, has completed a €20 million transfer from Girona FC to Napoli, marking a significant move in the summer transfer window. The deal comprises €18 million in fixed fees and an additional €2 million in easily achievable performance-related bonuses. Notably, Real Madrid retains a 50% stake in Gutiérrez’s rights, entitling them to half of the transfer fee.

Gutiérrez’s journey began in the youth ranks of Getafe before joining Real Madrid’s academy in 2011. He made his first-team debut for Real Madrid in the 2020-2021 season, featuring in six La Liga matches. In 2022, he transferred to Girona FC, where he became a pivotal figure in the team’s defense. Over three seasons, Gutiérrez accumulated 112 appearances, scoring six goals and providing 19 assists. His consistent performances earned him a spot in Spain’s squad for the 2024 Summer Olympics, where he contributed to the team’s gold medal victory.

The move to Napoli is seen as a strategic acquisition to bolster the team’s left flank. Gutiérrez’s versatility allows him to operate both as a traditional left-back and as a left-winger, providing tactical flexibility for Napoli’s coach, Antonio Conte. The Italian club’s interest in Gutiérrez intensified following his impressive performances in La Liga and the Olympics. Reports indicate that Napoli had been in discussions with Girona for several weeks, with negotiations culminating in this agreement.

For Girona FC, the sale of Gutiérrez represents a significant financial boost. The €20 million transfer fee is expected to strengthen the club’s financial position, enabling them to reinvest in the squad. The club is reportedly targeting replacements for the left-back position, with potential signings under consideration.

The transfer underscores Napoli’s commitment to strengthening their team with young, talented players capable of making an immediate impact.
