Lionel Messi has said he would like to come back to Barcelona at some point, as talk continues about his future with Inter Miami. He shared feelings after visiting the stadium work and writing about it online.

“Last night, I returned to a place that I miss with all my heart,”

“I hope that one day I can return, and not just to say goodbye as a player, as I never got to do..”

Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after a legendary spell at the club. During his time there he won 10 league titles, seven Spanish cups and four Champions League trophies. The club could not offer a new deal then because of serious financial problems, so he moved on.

He went to Paris Saint‑Germain for two seasons and later joined Inter Miami. On his recent visit to Barcelona he was shown the Nou Camp redevelopment and posted about how happy the place made him.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta welcomed the idea of Messi returning. “Of course, I would love that.” He said a proper tribute could be planned once the stadium work is done and if the club and Messi agree. “Always, of course, depending on what [the Messi camp] wants. There are also presidential elections before then, but in the case I am still president, I would love that.”

There is also talk that Messi could play elsewhere briefly while the MLS is on break, with Galatasaray mentioned as a possible short‑term move to keep him playing ahead of the next World Cup. Still, Messi recently signed new terms with Inter Miami that tie him to the club until the summer of 2028.
