Olympique de Marseille has placed midfielder Adrien Rabiot and winger Jonathan Rowe on the transfer list following an alleged altercation in the dressing room after their 1-0 defeat to Stade Rennais FC. The incident occurred after the match, where Rennes secured a stoppage-time goal despite playing with ten men for most of the game.

Reports indicate that tensions escalated between Rabiot and Rowe, leading to a physical confrontation that required intervention from the coaching staff. In response to this “unacceptable behaviour,” Marseille’s management, in agreement with the technical staff, decided to place both players on the transfer list, adhering to the club’s internal code of conduct. The decision was communicated to the players on Monday.

Rabiot, 30, joined Marseille last year after leaving Juventus. During the previous season, he was instrumental in the team’s performance, contributing significantly to their second-place finish in Ligue 1. However, concerns have been raised regarding his commitment during the preseason, with reports suggesting a lack of investment in the team’s preparations. This has led to speculation about his future, with clubs like AC Milan reportedly showing interest.

Rowe, 22, made the move from Norwich City to Marseille a year ago. Despite limited starting appearances, he managed to score three goals and provide three assists in the league. His performance has attracted attention from English clubs, including Sunderland and Leeds United, as well as Italian teams like Bologna.

The altercation between Rabiot and Rowe has cast a shadow over Marseille’s early season, raising questions about team dynamics and discipline. With the transfer window closing on September 1, both players are now seeking new opportunities, and Marseille is open to offers for their departures.
