Mariah Carey has been designated as the MusiCares 2026 Person of the Year, recognizing her extensive contributions to the music industry and her philanthropic efforts. The 35th annual Person of the Year benefit gala will take place on January 30, 2026, at the Los Angeles Convention Center, just two nights prior to the Grammy Awards.

Theresa Wolters, Executive Director of MusiCares, emphasized Carey’s influence beyond her artistry, noting her consistent support for communities through initiatives like disaster relief and youth empowerment. Wolters highlighted that Carey’s work embodies the values central to MusiCares, focusing on creating systems that uplift individuals in the music profession and their communities.

At 56, Carey will become the youngest recipient of the Person of the Year award since Sting in 2004 and the youngest woman since Gloria Estefan in 1994. This accolade not only highlights her lasting impact on music but also her commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of others through her various charitable endeavors. Carey’s recognition as MusiCares Person of the Year underscores both her artistic legacy and her dedication to philanthropy, reflecting a career that intertwines exceptional talent with a strong sense of social responsibility.
