Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has said that the situation involving Mohamed Salah has not distracted the team or changed their mindset.
Van Dijk made the comments after Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Dutch defender said the players remain focused and are still working hard to win games.
Mohamed Salah, widely seen as one of the club’s all-time greats, was left out of the squad by manager Arne Slot following a heated interview on Saturday. In that interview, Salah said he felt mistreated by the club and claimed his relationship with Slot had broken down.
Speaking about the situation, Van Dijk told reporters, “It’s difficult but it’s a collective difficult situation that we’re all in.
“Between Mo and the club, things are going on and he’s not here today, that’s the reality. I don’t think anything has changed in terms of our focus and determination.”
He added, “It’s a good feeling of winning. Especially in a period we are in, trying to find consistency and something to build on.”
“It doesn’t change anything. There’s obviously so much noise from the outside world, which is normal when you don’t perform.”
Liverpool’s next match is against Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.
