Liverpool has received approval to proceed with the acquisition of Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. This development follows Isak’s absence from recent games, including a 3-2 loss to Liverpool, prompting speculation about his future at St James’ Park. Despite an initial bid of around £120 million being turned down, Liverpool returned with a more attractive offer, paving the way for negotiations.

In anticipation of Isak’s potential departure, Newcastle United is reportedly close to signing German forward Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart for approximately £65 million. Woltemade, who showcased his talent during the 2025 European U21 Championship, is set to undergo a medical examination soon. This move aims to strengthen Newcastle’s attacking lineup amidst the uncertainty surrounding Isak.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has approached the situation with caution, noting that any new signings hinge on financial and tactical evaluations as the transfer deadline looms. He acknowledged that Newcastle’s actions regarding Woltemade could influence Isak’s status, yet he refrained from making conclusive statements about the transfer.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher weighed in on the scenario, emphasizing the complications arising from players wishing to leave. He described this situation as potentially creating a “nightmare” for managers and suggested that it may be advantageous for Newcastle to let go of Isak to preserve team dynamics.
